Jason Momoa Does a Pretty Good Ozzy Osbourne

“Scary Little Green Men,” just the latest in a long line of music videos from legendary heavy metal singer Ozzy Osbourne, features a fun list twist that’s caught the attention of a sizable number of fans. Yes, the dark, shadowy, and cloaked figure in the video isn’t the Prince of Darkness himself as most would expect, but rather Jason Momoa.

“We wanted to make an Ozzy video, but have Jason in it channeling Ozzy’s spirit,” director Marc Klasfeld said in a behind the scenes video. “We came up with a set that was very Ozzy-like, referencing one of Ozzy’s old videos. So the idea is to tease people into thinking it’s Ozzy, then obviously it’s not Ozzy, and Jason shows up and rocks out.”

The behind the scenes video released by Ozzy Osbourne shows Momoa in makeup, with his eyes and fingernails painted black, really getting into his role and enjoying the process. “I basically look like a big Dave Navarro,” he says upon seeing his reflection. “Or like, big Captain Jack Sparrow… D’y’knawwhatImean?”

The video is just one of many which prove that Momoa knows how to have fun with his roles, no matter what that role may be. While an Ozzy Osbourne video isn’t necessarily where fans expected to find Momoa next, given his broad range and reputation for knowing how to have fun, his appearance doesn’t necessarily come as a surprise.

Celebrities Who Were Secretly Spies

Here’s a quick look at three famous figures who were secretly spies!

Julia Childs. She introduced most of America to the joys of French cooking, but long before her cooking career Julia Childs at the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), which was the predecessor of the CIA. During World War II, Childs coordinated information for the Allies, first working in Washington then later in Sri Lanka and China – where she worked as Chief of the OSS Registry.

Harry Houdini. He may have been the master of escape, but if the allegations are true he was the master of espionage as well! As Houdini’s fame grew, the Hungarian-American illusionist drew the attention of Scotland Yard and the American Secret Service, who reportedly asked him to infiltrate Russian police stations and get information for them. Rumour has it that as Houdini toured police stations around the world he would insist on being locked up, wow authorities with his escape, and collect valuable information at the same time.

Cary Grant. He may have been a Hollywood heartthrob, but he was also one of the greatest Nazi hunters in America. Grant was employed by the British government to snuff out Nazi sympathizers during World War II, infamously outing Errol Flynn among others. Grant also donated his wartime movie salaries to the British War Relief and the Red Cross, and was a strong supporter of the British cause.

Clever Ways to Buy Less Stuff

We’ve all watched plenty of Marie Kondo and many of us have already gotten rid of the stuff that doesn’t spark joy, but all that work will be for nothing if we just end up buying more stuff. But don’t worry, we’ve thought long and hard and have come up with three clever ways to buy less stuff on a regular basis.

Convert prices to time. Money factors heavily into most buying decisions, but next time you’re thinking of making a purchase try converting that cost into time. Think about your hourly wage and how many hours of work it would take to finance that purchase. Don’t forget to deduct taxes and other costs, and factor in commute time as well, that should help you decide if a purchase is really worthwhile.

Take an inventory of what you have to avoid buying doubles. It’s an easy mistake to make when you’re out shopping for the basics, you think you’re out of something and end up with way more than you need! But it’s every bit as easy to avoid that mistake, simply take an inventory of what you have in the house and you won’t have to worry about accidentally doubling up.

Ignore the sales. This is a tough one, we’ll admit, but even if you’re only on the market for something specific the right sale can tempt anyone into buying way more than they need. Odds are you may not save that much anyway, so you can always buy things at regular price as needed or ask friends to pick them up for you when on sale, you’ll save a whole lot in the long run!

Important Lessons from the Harry Potter Series

J.K. Rowling creating nothing short of a cultural phenomenon with her Harry Potter Series, but for all its critical acclaim and commercial success, there are some valuable life lessons to be gleaned from within the pages of each book. Here are two important lessons from the Harry Potter series and the quotes that brought them to light.

Love is everywhere, and it should never be underestimated. “Love is a powerful force to be reckoned with. Love lives on even after people we care for are gone and it compels us to do things that are hard. Love is found from many different people, whether it’s family, friends, mentors, etc. and sometimes can be found from the people you’d least expect.”

Yes, you can in fact find love anywhere you look, you just have to know how to look for it. The power of love is mentioned once again in the series, this time coupled with the power of friends and family:

“With love, friendship, and family (whether they’re still with us, or not), we can get through anything.”

Live in the moment. “It does not do well to dwell on dreams and forget to live.” Much along the lines of “life is what happens when you’re busy making plans,” it’s always important to remember to live in the moment and make every moment count. Never stop dreaming, and work towards your dreams, but don’t sacrifice life in the process.

Relive The Glory Days With These Books About Classic Hollywood

Once upon a time, Hollywood was a place of mythical importance, with film stars as the aristocracy of the 20th century, the kings and queens of a new era. Hollywood seems so different these days, and it can be easy to see why someone would yearn back to the days of glitz, glamour, and glory. This list contains books that will transport you to those halcyon times.

Librange 4

Bette and Joan: The Divine Feud by Shaun Considine

Having been adapted into rollicking and wildly entertaining tv show from acclaimed creator Ryan Murphy, this books manages to capture the essence of two of Hollywood’s biggest, and boldest, divas. Joan Crawford was the elegant picture of studio perfecting, and Bette Davis the brash and uncompromising upstart talent. Their feud would become a seething tempest of hatred that not only consumed their lives but left a path of betrayal and ruin in its wake. Through painstaking research and interviews, this book is a comprehensive chronicle of two stars who would do anything to outshine each other.

Librange 8

Harlow in Hollywood by Darrell Rooney and Mark A. Vieira

At once both an astonishing and deeply moving profile of a young woman who went on to become not only Hollywood’s biggest star, but the template for many that would follow. Jean Harlow’s journey from small-town obscurity to stardom and then a sorrowful end, is in many ways the archetypal Hollywood tale. The book also encapsulates how myth and reality often became intertwined, and the almost Greek tragedy like narratives that would fuel the Hollywood machine, often at the cost of individual lives.

What Does the Future of Entertainment Hold?

In the age of on-demand, dominance in the entertainment industry is being fought for on a somewhat unexpected battlefield. Rather than companies competing over content, they’re competing over distribution. Netflix recently cancelled each of their Marvel shows, a move many speculate has much to do with Disney’s plan to launch their own streaming service, Disney +, later on this year. With all Marvel content out the window, it’ll only be a matter of time before Star Wars starts disappearing from Netflix screens as well.

Long before the danger from Disney, however, Netflix had other heavy hitters to compete with such as HBO, who dominate drama with Game of Thrones. And so it is that countless other content providers become content producers, aligning and feuding with each other on a regular basis, each vying for our entertainment dollars.

Librange 20

The same can be said when it comes to our music, and soon, our podcasts. Spotify recently announced the purchase of podcast producer Gimlet Media, become the latest distributor to make a major investment in content production, and likely ushering in a new age in audio entertainment. With choices for consumers no longer depending on what they like the best but also on where they can get it, it remains to be seen just exactly what this means for the future of entertainment.

The Fire Goes out With Keith Flint

90s rave culture defied the odds by becoming a successor of sorts to the rock n’ roll era. The electronic music that helped spawn it, though technically demanding, was visually uninteresting. Live performances were devoid of of long-haired bands virtuosically playing their instruments on stage, replaced instead by a few people, or often just one person, standing stationary behind a turntable. Many performers tried to make up for the lack of interesting visuals with a light show. Take, for example, the Chemical Brothers. Enter: The Prodigy.

Producer and keyboardist Liam Howlett was a visionary, producing music that captured the imagination of a generation of ravers. Howlett, however, was not a frontman; he lacked the charisma to get the crowd going. It was customary for electronic music acts to bring dancers to a rave, and though they were typically women, Howlett chose three of his male rave companions when forming the Prodigy in 1990. It was in 1996 that dancer Keith Flint was unexpectedly promoted to frontman, that same year the band released their third album The Fat of the Land, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Keith Flint took his own life over the weekend, his body was found in his home North of London. He was 49. The band expressed their shock and sadness as they announced the news via social media early Monday morning.

No matter what the mood, the world of literature has something to offer for everyone. Here are three great reads perfectly suited to different moods.

In The Heart Of The Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex by Nathaniel Philbrick. “An extraordinary tale of epic survival against near-impossible odds” according to Philbrick himself. Librange 5

The World Atlas of Coffee: From Beans to Brewing by James Hoffmann. Hoffmann himself is a world champion barista and CEO of a British roasting company, making him a reliable resource for all things coffee. Perfect for those days where you’re looking to get informed but still want to keep things light.

Librange 17

I’m Dreaming of a Black Christmas by Lewis Black. A New York Times bestselling author and regular contributor to the Daily Show, Lewis Black tears apart the tradition of the holidays piece by piece and suggests his own substitutes. Two Fun Facts about Elvis

All hail the King of rock ‘n’ roll! From his music to his acting Elvis has enjoyed a popularity that still endures to this day, decades after his death. Here are two fun facts about Elvis that aren’t necessarily common knowledge.

Young Elvis nearly pursued other interests. Elvis got his first guitar at Tupelo Hardware in 1946 at the tender age of 11 years old. The young Elvis came into the Mississippi store with his mother, who wanted to buy her son a birthday gift. His mother wanted to buy Elvis a bicycle, but it was a rifle that caught the youngster’s eye… Eventually, a compromise was reached, and the boy and his mother walked out of the store with a guitar. 7 years later, at the age of 18, Elvis paid $4 to record his first record, which he presented to his mother as a gift.

The King died on his throne. While the precise cause of Elvis Presley’s death has long been the subject of speculation, one fact remains true, the King died on his throne, so to speak. Presley’s body was found on the bathroom floor in the seated position after apparently falling forward from the toilet. While a combination of drugs were found in Presley’s system at the time of his death, the re-opening of his autopsy in 1994 revealed that the likely cause of death was in fact a sudden and severe heart attack.
